KUALA LUMPUR: If you spot a zombie on a bicycle – or a few hundred of them – on the roads of Seberang Perai Utara this Oct 13, don't run, they're not here to feast on your brains. They're just taking part in a fun ride by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Onn Butterworth (SMKDOB).
SMKDOB PTA president, Jazman Shahar Abdollah, said: “The SMKDOB Cyclethon 2018 Fun Ride themed ‘Zombies on Bikes’ is to raise funds for the school’s academic and co-curricular activities, pay for sending students to participate in national and international contests, as well as for improvements and maintenance of the school building.”
Joining him at an interview in Bernama today to promote the event was Ritz Corporate Holding founder, Datuk Ibrahim Yahya, whose company is contributing RM300,000 as the main sponsor. The fun ride's strategic technical partner is Tasek Gelugor Riderz which is experienced in organising big bicycling events.
Jazman hopes the SMKDOB Cyclethon 2018 Fun Ride which is to be organised yearly will become part of the Penang State Tourism Development Office event calendar just like the Penang Bridge Run, Star Walk, I Love Penang Run and Pink Run are.
The official launch of the fun ride will be on Sept 1 by Seberang Jaya assemblyman, Dr Afif Bahardin. It is open to the public with two categories: 30km and 70km. The organiser is targeting a participation of 1,000 bicyclists and hopes they will go to town with their costumes and decorations.
There will be prizes for a lucky draw, best costume and more. The main prize is a motorcycle worth RM3,500. Make-up artists will also be ready with their palettes to give participants the authentic zombie look for free.
