KUALA LUMPUR: Nelo Vingada has been appointed as the new national football team manager along with his role as head coach, after receiving the consent of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
According to a statement by FAM secretary-general, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin on FAM's official Facebook page, Vingada from Portugal would begin his dual role beginning with the third Group B match of the 2019 Asian Cup Qualifiers against Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Stadium tonight.
"The appointment was made because the president wanted a full-time team manager who could always focus on his duties with the team, as well as facilitate team administration in terms of management and coaching.
"We would like to thank FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal who had been tasked as national team manager for the last two matches, against Lebanon in Larkin on June 13, and Hong Kong in Melaka, on Sept 5," he said.
