Kuala Terengganu PAS chief Wan Sukairi (in green shirt) is seen here trying to talk Tengku Seri Paduka Raja Ibrahim Ismail (left) from leaving the party but to no avail. – August 3, 2015.A member of the Terengganu royal family, Tengku Seri Paduka Raja Tengku Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, who joined PAS three years ago, today announced his decision to leave the party.

Better known as "Tengku Paduka" or "Ku Duka", he said he was disheartened with the PAS leadership as its strategy did not reflect maturity in strengthening the party, together with allies in the opposition pact.

"The people can see how vocal the professionals in PAS in Parliament when they raised issues. They are experienced people, but were ousted at the PAS assembly recently, a disappointment to many quarters," he told a media conference at his residence in Batu Burok in Kuala Terengganu today.

When asked whether his decision to leave the party had to do with Gabungan Harapan Baharu (GHB) or the New Hope Movement, Tengku Ibrahim said it had nothing to do with the new movement, but was willing to consider joining it.

"I'll wait and see its development, the direction GHB is heading to," he added.

Tengku Ibrahim was Tanggol assemblyman for one term after winning the seat in the 1990 general election on Parti Melayu Semangat 46's (S46) ticket.

When S46 was dissolved in 1996, he returned to Umno's fold, but left to join PAS in 2012. – Bernama, July 29, 2015.
