BANGI: Strengthening and developing infrastructure in Balakong is the main thrust of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto for the state seat's by-election.
PH candidate Wong Siew Ki said she was determined to resolve the problems on flash floods and traffic congestion, which had been plaguing the constituents in Balakong.
"The Sungai Balak banks will be upgraded and a recreational area for residents will be set up in Kampung Baru Balakong.
"The road off Jalan Balakong Batu 11 will be widened and I'll also discuss with the Kajang Municipal Council on widening of the intersection at Jalan Bandar Tun Hussein Onn and the Grandsaga Expressway to overcome traffic congestion in the area," she said when met after the launch of the PH manifesto for the Balakong by-election.
Wong also promised to strengthen the role of the People's Representatives Council at the Kajang Municipal Council, as well as foster better cooperation among local residents, especially youths and women.
The Balakong by-election was called following the death of its incumbent assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee in a road accident last July 20.
Wong said the Balakong Festival introduced by the late Ng in 2014 would be rebranded to further promote the constituency.
"The festival is still on, but with lukewarm response, unlike before. So, the Balakong festival will be rebranded to introduce and promote the identity of Balakong. I'll also organise cultural programmes," she added.
In another development, Wong, who is DAP Wanita vice-leader, said she was worried about losing the support of the people in Balakong, despite PAS having announced that its members would support MCA in this by-election.
"The voters are wise and they know who is the better candidate that can bring better future for Balakong," she added.
