JOHOR BAHRU, January 10 — Continuous heavy rain since morning caused Segamat to be hit by floods again tonight.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said as at 7pm, 17 people from five families from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak were evacuated to a relief centre.
“Most of the evacuees’ homes were affected by the overflow of Sungai Muar, Segamat. A relief centre was opened at Batu Badak community hall at 6 pm to accommodate the 17 flood victims,” he said in a statement here today.
Meanwhile, in Kuantan, the number of flood evacuees in Pahang declined to 284 people as of 8 pm, compared to 338 people this afternoon.
According to the Infobanjir portal of the Social Welfare Department, five relief centres were still in operation in Pekan to accommodate 254 victims from 67 families.
Of the total, 93 people were housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Temai, Kampung Pulau Manis relief centre (75 people), Kampung Tanjung Pulai community hall (39), SK Acheh (nine) and Kampung Lamir relief centre (38).
