MIRI: The SK Long Bemang school in Ulu Baram in interior northern Sarawak has been inundated by floodwaters after a tributary of Sungai Baram overflowed its banks due to heavy rain.
The management of the school, which has more than 200 pupils, has sought help from the authorities for emergency relief.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said his department received a distress call at about 11am on Saturday.
The Bomba station in Marudi town has been notified and has deployed personnel to the school to look into its immediate needs and to see if an emergency evacuation has to be carried out, he said.
The journey by river from Marudi to SK Long Bemang takes at least three hours.
