BALAKONG: Works Minister Baru Bian said the road upgrading work along Jalan Balakong is not a move by the Pakatan Harapan government to fish for votes in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking to members of the media here, he said it was mere coincidence that the upgrading works were being implemented in the run-up to the polls on Sept 8.
"If a development project happens to be in a place where there is a by-election, we can't help it.
"The new government intends to develop the infrastructure within the country the best that we can," said Baru.
"Parkland Group will be carrying out this project as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) at the cost of RM8 million," he added.
Scope of the work includes the widening of a four-lane road, and the upgrading of two signaling intersections as well as drainage channels along the road.
