Rescued male elephant dies

LAHAD DATU: A male elephant, aged about five years, that was rescued at Ulu Segama Forest Reserve, Lahad Datu on Tuesday, died today.

Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) Public Relation Officer, Siti Nur'ain Ampuan Acheh said the rescued elephant died at 8.20am while on the way for treatment at the Borneo Elephant Sanctuary in Kinabatangan.

"A post mortem conducted on the pachyderm revealed that the elephant died due to septicaemia which originated from a severe snare trap injury," she said in a statement here, today.

On Aug 28, a SWD team was dispatched to the lu Segama Forest Reserve to rescue a male elephant which was reported injured after been seen having snare trap on its left front leg.

It was found the elephant , which was already weak, suffered a severe and deep wound which had already reached to the bone.
