JAKARTA: Going to the Asian Games as the 2017 world champion did not appear to add any clout to Wong Weng Son in the men's changquan event today.

The gold medalist of the 2017 World Championship ended in the ninth position out of 17 participants after collecting 9.59 points in the event held at Dewan B, Jakarta International Expo.

Another national representative, Yeap Wai Kin, was placed eighth with 9.63 points.

The gold medal went to China's Sun Peiyuan who received 9.75 points followed by host exponent Marvelo Edgar Xavier with a silver (9.72 points), while Tai Tsemin of Taiwan had to be content with a bronze medal with 9.70 points.

Weng Son, who was met by Malaysian reporters after the competition admitted he made a mistake when landing which could have been the cause of the poor point collection.

"Even though this was not the event I won in the 2017 World Champion but I am happy with my performance despite the landing mistake which affected my marks," said the Negri Sembilan boy.
