JOHOR BARU: Police have rescued an abducted man with the arrest of nine men in front of a restaurant in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Skudai, here early today.

Johor CID chief SAC Kamaluddin Kassim said the arrest was made after police acted on a report made by the victim's family at 9pm yesterday on the alleged incident in front of a restaurant in Bukit Indah, here.

"All the suspects, aged 20 and 60, were arrested in front of the restaurant in Bandar Selesa Jaya at about 1.50am.

"Before the arrest, one of the suspects contacted the victim's wife by telephone to meet in front of the restaurant and they brought the victim there in a car," he said in a statement here today.

He said police managed to rescue the victim, but he suffered injuries on several parts of the body, believed to have been beaten while being held and sent to the hospital for treatment.

He said the investigation revealed the motive was believed to have been due to the victim not repaying the money borrowed from the loan shark within the stipulated time.

"The victim was abducted and beaten by the suspects. The victim's family was also threatened and forced to pay more money as a condition to release the victim," he said.

Kamaluddin said the police were currently conducting further investigations on the suspects to assist in tracking down suspects still at large.
