GEORGE TOWN: A 17-year-old motorcyclist, who nearly rammed into a traffic police officer in his haste to flee a roadblock, was nabbed early Saturday morning.
At the police roadblock along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here at 2.30am, he made an emergency u-turn and rode against the flow of traffic.
Within minutes he was down on the ground after colliding against a road divider.
Earlier, he nearly rammed into a traffic police officer who was stationed nearby.
After the fall, the motorcyclist, who sustained light injuries, was sent to the Penang Hospital for treatment.
He will be charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public official from discharging his or her duty.
The offence is punishable with a prison term of up to two years and a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
Balik Pulau district police head Supt A. Anbalagan confirmed the case, and said the suspect would be remanded for three days.
"Presently he is being treated at the hospital for his injuries and he is under police watch," he said.
