KOTA BARU: Any PAS state assemblyman that leaves the party without giving up posts won on a PAS ticket will effectively be divorcing their spouses, says Kelantan PAS commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yakob (pic).
Ahmad, who is also Kelantan Mentri Besar, said this was due to a baiah (oath of loyalty) taken by PAS elected representatives since 2004, taken before the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who was also the PAS Kelantan commissioner and spiritual leader.
He said that the oath assemblymen took meant elected representative who left PAS for another party would have automatically divorced their wives talak tiga (a final and absolute Muslim declaration of divorce).
Ahmad was speaking to reporters after a Hari Raya gathering with Kelantanese university graduates here on Wednesday.
Last Sunday, ousted central committee member Khalid Abdul Samad said PAS leaders would leave the party after Gabungan Harapan Baru (GHB) is registered around September.
A few Kelantan MPs, namely Datuk Kamaruddind Jaafar (Tumpat), Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli (Kuala Krai), Datuk Dr Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad (Pasir Puteh) and at least three other state assemblyman have said they will join GHB.
However, Ahmad, who is also the PAS deputy spiritual adviser, refused to elaborate more on the contents of the written oath.
