Swedish smartphone manufacturer HMD Global has released the Nokia 8, a new flagship device that is expected to start a price war at the top end of the smartphone market.

The 5.3in device was released in mid-August and costs around €600 (RM3,060). As the new flagship Nokia model, it will compete directly with Apple's iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 at the top of the market.

Inside the aluminium case, there's Qualcomm's state-of-the-art Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory. The screen has QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels).

Like other devices in this market segment, the Nokia 8 has a combination of colour and monochrome cameras. The optics are made by Zeiss. Simultaneous video recording with both the front and rear cameras is possible, and the clips can be watched together using a dual-side feature – particularly useful for live streams.

The manufacturer also promises better spatial sound for 360° video using technology from its OZO camera. The phone has three integrated microphones that work together to capture immersive surround sound.
