KOTA BARU: All PAS MPs or State Assemblymen who resign as PAS members to join Gabungan Harapan Baru (GHB) this September must return the seats to their former party as stipulated in their baiah (loyalty oath).
PAS youth chief Nik Muhammad Abduh Nik Mat said those who intend to leave must return the trust given to them in the form the parliamentary or state seats that they won in the last general election back to PAS.
"This is in accordance of the Baiah pledge they made before they became a candidate for the party in the last general election,” said Nik Abduh when contacted on Tuesday.
He added that PAS members could leave the party at any time, but they “must reflect on their solemn promise”.
Nik Abduh added that those who intended to join GHB had already strayed from PAS.
On Monday, PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah had urged PAS leaders in GHB to leave the party immediately.
This was in response to reports quoting former central committee member Khalid Abdul Samad who said all PAS members will automatically leave the party when GHB is officially launched in September.
Meanwhile in a Facebook post on his official account, Nik Abduh challenged those who took the oath of loyalty to find a fatwa or edict that allows them to renege their oath.
He said that the loyalty oath could not be violated, and that the elected representatives must return their seats to PAS if they violated the oath.
