BRISBANE, April 7 — The national men’s hockey squad rallied for Malaysia’s first three points winning 3-0 over Wales in the group second leg at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Obviously, the defeat to England in the opening match at Gold Coast Hockey Stadium failed to break the spirit of the squad coached by Stephen Van Huizen.
The national team was galvanised by Fitri Saari’s first goal via a penalty stroke in the 19th minute.
Malaysia continued to showcase excellent performance with Joel Van Huizen doubling the score in the 36th minute through a penalty corner.
Wales tried to counter but failed to stop Malaysian striker Faizal Saari’s field shot in the 55th minute.
