KUALA NERUS: Five out of 14 students who were picked up for truancy in an integrated operation in Kampung Baru, Seberang Takir yesterday tested positive for drugs.

Kuala Nerus Drug Rehabilitation Committee chairman Md Azmi A. Aziz said urine tests conducted by the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) showed that the students, aged between 13 and 17, were positive for methamphetamine, morphine and heroin.

The operation was an ongoing effort by local residents to curb truancy among schoolchildren which allegedly led to other social problems such as drug addiction and theft, he said when contacted by Bernama.
