ASIA Musical Productions, the talented and award-winning team behind the successful and highly acclaimed musical productions, Prince Siddhartha and Princess Wen Cheng, is showcasing another stellar production, Singing Market the Musical at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) until Sunday.

This delightful musical, set in the 70s, is an explosion of nostalgia with its unforgettable melodies, endearing characters, entertaining storyline, retro designs and colourful costumes.

The story centres around a group of market vendors who are forced to perform at the annual Ghost Festival dinner at the eleventh hour.

The festival committee chairman’s wife, Hua Jie, has secretly gambled away the organisation’s money and tries to cover up the situation by getting help from retired singers, best friends Zhen Zhen and Fang Fang.

Their mission begins as they manage to rope in the fishmonger, the noodles “Ah Sou”, the vegetable “Aunty”, the Hokkien chicken seller, the effeminate boss of a coffee shop together with his shy and timid niece.

The musical has comedy, tragedy, romance, and friendship, which makes it an entertaining outing for audiences of all ages.

Singing Market the Musical comprises 150 minutes of music and some popular Chinese classic songs, beautiful dances, colourful costumes, and realistic stage settings.

The musical is directed and scripted by Ho Lin Huay, with music direction by Cody Foong, and dance choreography by Chan Soo Leng and Michell Yong.

The cast include Yudi, Alana Sim, Li Qiang, Elaine Lee, Alvin Loh and winners of Astro’s Classic Golden Melody Singing Competition 2008 and 2009.

The tickets for Singing Market the Musical are priced at RM63, RM83, RM123, RM183, RM253.
