IPOH: Architect Tan Siew Loong stole the show with his Predator costume at the first ever AC3 Ipoh Cosplay Carnival 2016.
Tan, 22, was a hit at the event held at Wisma Chin Woo here with many visitors all wanting to take photographs and selfies with him.
The costume, with the recognisable faceplate and dreadlocks from the 1987 film, also has the “infra-red” scope and retractable arm blades.
Tan said his costume was made from recyclable materials and it took him about six months to make it.
“It was hard and pricey to source for the right materials to make the costume. I used aluminium tin cans to make the faceplate and part of the armour was made with cardboard.
“As for the dreadlocks, these were made from rubber hose while the face was made from newspapers,” he added.
Tan said he had always been fascinated by the character ever since he watched the film when he was a child.
“I started to cut up aluminium one day out of boredom and then inspiration hit me to make a knight’s armour from it.
“I then gathered more materials to build the Predator costume,” he said, adding that he had another one at home.
“The first time I took part was in 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It was fun as I also got to meet other like-minded people,” he said.
About 300 people – including cosplayers and visitors – were present at the carnival.
Apart from the cosplaying event, there were also stalls selling food, toys, costumes and make-up.
