GEORGE TOWN: PKR strategic adviser Sim Tze Tzin has called on Barisan Nasional (BN) to accept that Malaysians have now come to embrace a two-party system which is similar to the models in developed nations.
And now it happens to be their turn to be the Opposition so they should resign themselves to such a fate and aspire to be an effective check and balance force in Parliament and at the states' level, the Bayan Baru MP told theSun.
Commenting on the statement by acting Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahidi Hamidi that BN and Umno have agreed to the possibility of discussing forming governments or remaining in the Opposition, Sim said Pakatan was now in an even stronger position and it may not need help from Umno in this context.
"I think Umno does not know how to be an Opposition. They have only functioned as a government, which dishes out handouts and goodies to entice the people. Now, they have to learn how to be an Opposition. They should just learn it."
According to Sim, Umno should relish its role in the Opposition as they can get to keep Pakatan in check.
