The 2016 school year in Singapore kicked off on Monday, Jan 4, after a six-week break over Christmas and the New Year. Channel NewsAsia photojournalist Sherlyn Goh woke up before sunrise to capture scenes of schoolchildren heading back to school.
These primary school students reach their school bright and early - so early it's not even bright yet, with the sun yet to rise.

The school term for primary and secondary schools starts on Jan 4 - a week before their junior college counterparts, with the JC term kicking off on Jan 11 for Year 2 students, and Jan 29 for those in Year 1.
