Just keep us informed, say police on Yellow Mania Festival

Organisers of the Yellow Mania Festival, which will be held from Jan 6 to Jan 10, have been advised by Dang Wangi police chief Asst Commissioner Zainol Samah to keep police posted on their plans.

Pointing out that the event did not require approval or a permit from police, as it is being held inside a hall, Zainol’s advice to the organisers was so police could oversee traffic and security in the area.

“In this case, since the festival is being held at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), there is no need to serve notice to the district police chief under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

“However, the organisers are advised to inform police to enable police to arrange the deployment of officers for traffic control and matters related to security,” he said in a statement today.

Zainol pointed out that he was speaking only on the involvement of police on this matter and was not representing other agencies.

Earlier, Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said that the organisation of Yellow Mania Festival did not require permission or prior notice to the police five days before the event.

Maria Chin said this in reference to a statement by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor yesterday that the group must apply for a permit for the event.

She had also explained that the location chosen for the event was a closed venue and they had organided many events there.
