Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar was seen having a meal and mingling with the people during a visit to Mersing in Johor recently.
The ruler, who was dressed casually in a light green hooded sweater, was seen having his meal at Restoran Syed Ali during his visit to the Mersing district yesterday.
He stopped by the restaurant which was located along Jalan Datuk Mohd Ali, near Sungai Mersing.
On the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar official Facebook page, the 57-year-old ruler was featured joining the other patrons of the restaurant.
Four photos showed Sultan Ibrahim sitting in the restaurant and engaging with the public. A main photo also showed the ruler riding a small motorcycle outside the restaurant.
He had a white cloth on his songkok, signifying he was still in mourning for his son, Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Jalil.
The Facebook post was uploaded at 3.15pm yesterday. It had since garnered more than 11,654 likes, 388 comments and 1,009 shares at press time.
Sultan Ibrahim was known to be close to his subjects in Johor, and made unofficial visits to popular restaurants in various districts in the state.
Among the comments posted was one by Deva Sangaran who said leaders should emulate the Sultan of Johor’s approach with the rakyat.
One Amin Affendi Alhaj from Selangor commented that Sultan Ibrahim was definitely more than a people’s ruler as he took an initiative to mingle with his subjects irregardless of background or race.
Josephine Lee wrote that she was impressed by Sultan Ibrahim’s close approach to the people of Johor.
Meanwhile this morning, Bernama reported that the Sultan had stopped to have breakfast at the Al Ziya Fathima Restaurant at the Mas Jaya Commercial Centre in Jalan Salleh, Muar.
The ruler was reported as having had roti canai with mutton and chicken curry and an iced ginger drink.
He had also spent some time chatting with the people there and obliging some for selfies.
