SEGAMAT: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar lived up to the title Sultan Berjiwa Rakyat (people-oriented Sultan) when he cooked for the flood victims he was visiting.
Sultan Ibrahim arrived at Balairaya Gemerah 4 at around 9.45am here yesterday to meet the five families from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak who are staying at the flood relief centre.
The Ruler spent about half an hour with the 25 victims, listening to their experiences at the shelter, and he also gave various items to them.
“My Sultan is quite a good cook and his visit to the centre gives us encouragement with the ongoing floods,” she said.
Another villager Raja Shahrin Tengku Ismail, 50, said he and his family had been at the centre since Saturday, when it rained heavily for about 16 hours.
“The situation has improved slightly since the state government deepened Sungai Segamat after the major floods in 2007.
“Sultan Ibrahim asked me why I did not move as the area always floods but it has been my home since I was a child.
“I am hopeful that after his visit, there will be further improvement to prevent floods in the area,” he said.
