KOTA ISKANDAR: Johor Opposition leader Datuk Hasni Mohammad (Benut-Umno) was given an office at the State Assembly building but he scoffed at the size of it.
Hasni said this showed that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state government doesn't recognise the status of opposition.
He said this after receiving the key of the office from Johor Speaker Suhaizan Kaiat at the state administration centre here on Sunday.
He said the office needs to be big enough for several staff to be stationed there to assist the Opposition in discharging its duties.
Hansi also suggested the State Account Committee be headed by an Opposition member as what has been done by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) at Federal level.
This is the first time the Jonor state government is providing an office and monthly allowance of RM3,000 for the Opposition leader.
In the 14th general election last May, PH received the people's mandate to form the state government of Johor with 36 state seats, while Barisan Nasional (BN) secured 19, and PAS managed one.
However on May 12, three BN assemblymen, namely Rasman Ithnain (Sedili), Rosleli Jahari (Johor Lama) and Alwiyah Talib (Endau), announced their departure from BN and declared that they wanted to join Bersatu. However, they remained Independent assemblymen.
