KUCHING: The Sarawak state government has been urged to provide land, especially the traditional plots to every Sarawakian family to enable them to build houses on the land.
Jemoreng state assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the ideal provision would be an acre of land to be divided among four families, as implemented some time ago in the Kampung Gita and Kampung Malaysia Jaya, Kuching land schemes, here.
He said he had brought up the matter several times in the state legislative assembly debates as most of the traditional village houses had been overwhelmingly crowded following an increase in the number of family members over the years.
"Praise be to Allah, Sarawakians are very productive and the population of Land of the Hornbills is increasing and this is something positive," he said in a statement to Bernama today.
He said the plight to own land should be fought for all levels of society in Sarawak because if this is not pursued the younger generation in Sarawak would not be able to own homes as prices of houses in the towns were extremely high.
