Now the Show-Me-State has scored a spot on another national list, this time for more wholesome reasons.
Lonely Planet cites Kansas Citys barbecue joints, fountains, jazz scene and walkable neighborhoods (the Country Club Plaza, Crossroads Arts District) as reasons for tourists to visit in 2014.
Kansas Citys WWI Museum and alluring locally owned restaurants and bars in Westport also scored mentions on Lonely Planets list.
Even KCK got a shout-out: Lonely Planet called the burnt ends at Oklahoma Joes amazing. (The travel site also recommended Arthur Bryants and LCs Bar-B-Q in a recent mini-guide to Art, jazz and burnt ends in Kansas City.)
Kansas City ranks higher than some notable travel destinations on Lonely Planets Top 10 U.S. Travel Destinations list. Among them: Las Vegas and Lanai, Hawaii.
Grand Rapids and Lake Michigans Gold Coast scored the No. 1 spot, followed by Yosemite National Park in California and Boston. View the complete list here.
