KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ahmad Maslan has changed his controversial hastag #2Kerja (two jobs) to #TambahPendapatan (increase income).
"My twitter tagline is now #TambahPendapatan and is different from the previous hastag #2Kerja," the Deputy International Trade and Industry told reporters after attending the National Book Award appreciation ceremony here on Monday.
He acknowledged that the earlier hastag had courted negative response on social media after it was taken out of context.
The new hastag, he said, was more positive as agencies under his ministry would work towards helping increase incomes of families and those in the rural areas.
"It's regrettable that I had become the target on social media since the launch of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
"Of course I do not like it and hope that things can be spun positively instead," he said.
Although attacked on social media, he said that he was a forgiving person and did not want to hold any grudges.
"I came from a poor family who were rubber tappers and we did not have electricity and proper roads in the village until I was 30 years old.
"With this in mind, do you think that I want to burden the people?" he questioned.
Ahmad Maslan added that his tweets were taken out of context as he meant that those who wanted to increase their income could run an online business at nights and weekends on the top of their jobs.
Last week, he drew flak from netizens for his hastag and his subsequent clarification.
He was criticised for drawing reference to himself as one who held three jobs in his capacity as a Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister and Umno information chief.
