NEW YORK: The NBA's New York Knicks have agreed to a deal to make David Fizdale their next head coach, multiple US media outlets reported Thursday.
The New York Daily News said it had confirmed the deal, which ESPN reported was for four years.
The Knicks have interviewed a string of coaching prospects over the past three weeks, but Fizdale has been mentioned as a strong candidate to succeed Jeff Hornacek even longer.
The 43-year-old Fizdale was fired as coach of the Memphis Grizzlies in November of 2017 after an eight-game losing streak and a falling out with Spanish big-man Marc Gasol.
Fizdale had taken over in Memphis in May of 2016 and guided the Grizzlies to a 50-51 mark during his tenure.
Fizdale is poised to become the Knicks' 11th coach since the 2001-02 season. Since then the Knicks have won just one playoff series and become a perennial also-ran.
