BANGI: DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang has called for MCA to reform its own party before they can be considered to be a credible check and balance for the Pakatan Harapan government.
He said that MCA should focus on the abuse of power that has been going on for 60 years rather than focusing on becoming a check and balance.
"At present, what is important is to change the abuse of power that has been going on for 60 years," he said. "That is more crucial than what MCA said (about checks and balances)," he said.
"What role can MCA play? It is part of a 60-year Barisan Nasional (BN) government that has been involved in the abuse of power," he said.
The Iskandar Putri MP said that MCA needs to own up "come clean and condemn (former prime minister) Najib Razak and 1MDB" before it could be viewed as credible by voters again.
Speaking to reporters after a talk at a coffee shop here with Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Balakong by-election Wong Siew Ki, Lim said that PH was committed to eliminating such practices as the abuse of power.
"We agree with the concept of check and balance, but MCA cannot play this role," he said.
The Balakong seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Eddie Ng of DAP, in an accident on the Grand Saga Expressway on July 20.
