BRITISH High Commissioner to Malaysia HE Vicki Treadell officially launched the Oxford-Jeffrey Cheah Graduate Scholarship at Sunway University on Aug 23.
At the ceremony, Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Founding Trustee Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah thanked the University of Oxford. Cheah was also honoured and expressed his gratitude towards the uni in helping talented young Malaysians reach their potential.
According to Cheah, the Oxford-Jeffrey Cheah Graduate Scholarship was conceived following the launch of Oxford University's "Matched Funding Scheme" where the university matches any funds raised by the colleges for scholarships and other scholarly activities on a 1:2 basis.
Good relations between Brasenose College and Oxford Uni led to the Doctorate of Philosophy (D.Phil) scholarship, which is made available to candidates from ASEAN countries, with first preference given to Malaysians.
