Group's show of support for Warisan VP fizzles out

KOTA KINABALU: Over 100 Parti Warisan Sabah supporters turned up at the KPJ Hospital in Damai near here after hearing word that Warisan vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony would be released on bail Thursday.

However, they were told that Anthony, whose remand was extended for three days on Tuesday, would only be allowed bail on Friday.

There was confusion as to when the second remand order would expire as court papers showed it as Oct 12 when it should have been Oct 13 (Friday) instead.

The supporters were at the hospital where Anthony had been warded for dehydration and other health issues.

Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr later obtained clarification over the actual expiry date of the second remand order and informed supporters about it.

He said Anthony would most likely remain at the hospital even if he was released on bail.

"W e can't all go up and visit him. Those who wish to visit can do so in small numbers, according to hospital rules," he added.

Loretto thanked everyone who turned up, including Anthony's family members, who travelled from as far as Tenom and Kota Marudu since Wednesday night to show their support.
