PETALING JAYA: A lethargic Westports Malaysia Dragons fell to their second defeat in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) after being outclassed by Vietnam’s Saigon Heats.
The Dragons, who beat the Heats 100-92 on Nov 7, looked a pale shadow of themselves this time, going down 91-82 at the CIS Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
Dragons, coming off a 68-64 win against Thai’s Mono Vampire Club last week, had no answer once the Vietnamese side turned on the heat.
The Dragons, in search of their fifth win of the season, were in control in the first quarter to take a 22-17 lead.
The Heats stepped up their game in the second quarter to collect 30 points to end the first half level at 47-47.
The Heats continued from where they left off in the third quarter – keeping a tight leash on Dragons trio of Jason Brickman, Matthew Wright and Calvin Godfrey – to open up a six-point lead at 67-61.
The Dragons tried to claw their way back into the match in the final quarter, but Heats forwards Moses Morgan and Lenny Daniel powered their way to 24 points seize a 91-82 win.
The Dragons will host Thailand’s Mono Vampire Basketball Club at the Maba Stadium on Dec 6.
