“Mahathir is not Mugabe. Mugabe was firm. Mahathir is prepared to make necessary changes.
“I think the government has maligned him enough,” Anwar told reporters after his court hearing today to strike out his second sodomy conviction.
Anwar added that Dr Mahathir is also committed to the Opposition's reform agenda, and is prepared to make adjustments.
He was responding to a question if he trusted Dr Mahathir to work alongside him.
Anwar has filed a legal challenge against his second conviction for sodomy, claiming the government had used “perjured” evidence in their case, demanding that he be freed from prison.
The government then filed a counter-challenge to strike out the civil suit. The hearing to decide on the matter commenced today.
High Court judge Datuk Nik Asmat Nik Mohamed has fixed March 12, 2.30pm to deliver her judgement.
