PUTRAJAYA: In conjunction with the 2018 National Day celebration here, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will be commencing their deployment of personnel from the rehearsal on Aug 26 to the celebration day on Aug 31.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said 186 police officers would be assigned during the rehearsal stage while PDRM strength on the celebration day would be beefed up by 1,165 personnel to ensure the highest level of security and traffic control.
According to him, about 300,000 visitors are expected to attend the 2018 National Day celebration at Dataran Merdeka here this Friday.
"Detours and closures of roads on Aug 26, 27, 28 and 29 will be for the rehearsal while on Aug 31, road closure will begin in stages from 6am to 12 noon and will be reopened after the event," he said in a statement today.
The roads involved during the period are Laman Perdana, Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Saujana, Jalan Perpaduan, Jambatan Wawasan, Jalan T. A. Rahman, Lebuh Wawasan, Lebuh Bestari, Jalan Pembangunan, Jalan Kemerdekaan and Lebuh Setia, he said.
According to him, there are about 6,000 public parking bays available and shuttle buses will be provided to facilitate people to the celebration location.
Mazlan advised members of the public to use alternative routes and avoid using the affected roads during the rehearsal and celebration period.
"The people are also advised to plan their journey on the days involved and use public transport to avoid traffic congestion and obey traffic rules and instructions of the policemen on duty," he said.
"Parking on road shoulder is strictly prohibited especially along the event routes," he said and added that such vehicles would be summoned and towed to Putrajaya IPD.
