KUANTAN: A freelance journalist is surviving on milk formula as his body is no longer able to take in food due to the stomach cancer he has been suffering from since 2009.
V. P. Tawasegaran, 66, who was formerly with the Tamil Nesan newspaper, said a special apparatus is helping him channel the milk formula into his stomach.
"I was detected as having cancer nine years ago and, since then, my health has been deteriorating and I have often been in and out of the hospital.
"I have undergone surgery thrice, in 2009, 2015 and 2016, and the latest was on Aug 16 when I was warded at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA)," Tawasegaran, a father of two, told Bernama when met at the hospital here yesterday.
The disease has limited his movements and Tawasegaran, who now weighs a mere 29 kg, is facing financial problems as he has to fork out more than RM1,500 a month for medical expenses and to buy the milk formula.
