BMW looks forward to increasing its portfolio of premium plug-in hybrids — ReutersKUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — BMW Group Malaysia aims to strengthen its presence in the premium hybrid vehicle market with the launch of the plug-in version – BMW 530e iPerformance.
The vehicles, known as iPerformance models, combined BMW standard combustion engines with electric motors for better fuel efficiency, more responsive engine and lower carbon emission.
Head of Sales, Raymond Tan, said in terms of model-mix share, 55 per cent of models sold in Malaysia were hybrid vehicles with eDrive technology.
“The 530e Sport Hybrid is the fifth model introduced as a part of the BMW iPerformance line-up.
“BMW’s iPerformance Hybrid line-up for Malaysia will consist of the 3series eDrive, X5 eDrive, 7series eDrive and 5series eDrive,” he said at the launch of the new BMW 530e Sport Hybrid here today..
Tan said in 2017, BMW Malaysia delivered over 3,000 units of its BMW X5 eDrive 40e Hybrid, 2,400 units of its BMW 330e Hybrid, and 450 units of its BMW 740Le Hybrid vehicles.
“We look forward to increase our portfolio of premium plug-in hybrid vehicles here. This will enable us to offer the largest hybrid portfolio in the country and further demonstrate our commitment towards visionary mobility in Malaysia,” he said.
The company also offers new BMW iPerformance model owners an unlimited complimentary access for a year to the Charge Now mobility service via the ChargeEV platforms across the country as part of its BMW Special Ownership programme.
The ChargeEV platform is a charging point for electric and hybrid vehicles, and could be found at petrol stations and shopping malls.
