IPOH: A babysitter claimed trial at the sessions court today to a charge of neglecting a three-month-old baby under her care.

Ros Azlina Mohd Ismail, 46, a mother of nine, was charged with neglecting Muhammad Zaheen Affan Mohamad Zulkarnain, resulting in injury to the child.

The offence was alleged to have been committed at a home in Seri Iskandar here at 11.30am on Aug 8.

The charge was framed under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a maximum jail term of 20 years or both upon conviction.

Sessions judge Datuk Julie Lack fixed bail at RM10,000 with one surety and set Sept 18 for mention.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Naidatul Athirah Azman asked for bail to be set at RM20,000.

It was earlier reported that the infant was sent to the babysitter's home at 9am on the day of the incident.

The babysitter had allegedly called the victim's father at 10.45am, saying the child was crying.

When the father brought his son to the hospital, an examination revealed that the infant had suffered a broken right arm.

The babysitter was detained after the father lodged a police report on Aug 9.
