JAKARTA: After only two days of training together, national divers Leong Mun Yee and Nur Dhabitah Sabri pulled off an amazing performance to bag the bronze medal in the women's 10m synchronised platform event at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games tonight.
Mun Yee, who won her third Asian Games medal in the event, said she did not expect Nur Dhabitah and herself to maintain such consistent dives with so little practice together.
"I am quite happy with our performance today because we managed to maintain that consistency even though we were paired at the last minute," she said when met by Malaysian journalists at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Centre, here today.
Nur Dhabitah was chosen to partner with Mun Yee after national diving queen Pandelela Rinong had to withdraw following an injury she suffered during training on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Nur Dhabitah admitted that she had made some minor mistakes, but thanked Mun Yee for her support which eventually helped her get her first Asian Games medal.
"From all the dives, there were some which were slightly less good, and some which were good and overall, I was satisfied. I thank Mun Yee for she is a great senior. This is my first Asian Games medal, so I'm definitely happy with the result," said the 19-year-old.
In their diving action tonight, the duo scored 310.80 points from six dives, which placed them in third place out of eight finalists.
