JAKARTA: The national athletics squad had a disappointing outing not clinching even a single medal in the 2018 Asian Games track-and-field events which came to a close at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium here, last night.
Even more disappointing was the disqualification of the national men's 4x100m quartet comprising national sprint King Khairul Hafiz Jantan, Jonathan Nyepa, Muhammad Haiqal Hanafi and Muhammad Zulfiqar Ismail in the final last night.
They were disqualified for passing the baton outside the takeover zone which is a violation of code 170.7 in the International Association of Athletics Federation's rule book.
The event was won by the Japanese quartet with a time of 38.16 seconds, while the silver and bronze went to Indonesia and China after the teams clocked in at 38.77s and 38.89s respectively.
There were also no new national records set by athletes under the Podium Programme, including Nauraj Singh Randhawa (men's high jump), Muhammad Hakimi Ismail (men's triple jump) and Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin (men's discus) events.
