All hopes now on Chong Wei, women’s doubles

Datuk Lee Chong Wei will again need to shoulder the burden of chasing gold. — Reuters picOLD COAST, April 14 — With the curtains coming down on the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games tomorrow, Malaysia’s hopes for additional gold medals rest on the shoulders of Datuk Lee Chong Wei in the badminton men’s singles and the women’s doubles pair of Vivian Hoo-Chow Mei Kuan.

Chong Wei, ranked world number seven, will have to contend with India’s K.Srikanth, who has just been crowned world number one.

Meanwhile, Vivian-Mei Kuan will be up against England’s crack pair of Lauren Smith-Sarah Walker.

Malaysia are in 12th place with a medal tally of five gold, five silver and 12 bronze. Malaysia won six gold medals at the last edition in Glasgow, Scotland, four years ago.
