KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be leading Umno as the 7th president for the 2018-2021 term alongside his deputy president Datuk Ser Mohamad Hasan.
The official results as posted on the Umno’s 2018 election monitoring Twitter account stated that Ahmad has garnered 93 divisional votes defeating his ex-Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (53 votes) and veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (23 votes).
Both Ahmad Zahid and Khairy were on a close fight with just a few votes difference with mostly Ahmad Zahid leading in the race and at one point both reached 41 votes.
Mohamad Hasan won with 75 votes in a direct battle with Tan Sri Annuar Musa who won 55 votes as of 9.42pm.
As for the three vice-president posts, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid are able to maintain as the top three among seven contenders.
Ismail garnered 16 votes, Johari garnered 15 votes and Mahdzir garnered 14 votes as of 8.23pm.
Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman are close behind Mahdzir with 13 and 12 votes respectively while Datuk Seri Ahmad Said received only one vote and Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad was left with none.
The final results of the elections including Supreme Council members are expected to be announced at earliest at 1am on Sunday.
Last week, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki was elected as the new Umno Youth chief, Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad as Wanita Chief and Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan as the new Puteri chief.
