PETALING JAYA: Westports Malaysia Dragons have hit out at Singapore Slingers for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The Dragons were beaten 71-78 by the Singaporean side in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) at the Maba Stadium on Saturday, but it was the behaviour of the Slingers’ Wong Wei Long that riled the Malaysian side’s head coach Ariel Vanguardia.

Earlier, the Slingers’ Wu Qingde had blatantly grabbed Matthew Wright by the neck and dragged him down while the Dragons star was taking a shot in the second quarter.

“We lost to a better team on Saturday but at least we showed better class. What Wei Long did was simply a cheap shot,” said Vanguardia.

“Yi Hou wanted to shake his hand, but was instead punched in the face.

“As for Wright, the foul could have ended his career. I hope the ABL will look into both incidents and take the necessary action,” added Vanguardia.

Dragons general manager Yakub Hussaini said the match commissioner had recordings of both incidents.

“We didn’t make a formal complaint because it’s not mandatory under the league rules. The match commissioner has filed his report and there is also video evidence against the Slingers,” said Yakub.
