17-month-old boy dies due to HFMD

NIBONG TEBAL: A 17-month-old baby boy has been confirmed to have died after he was afflicted with the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said a blood test had conclusively determined that the child had died from the EV71 virus of the HFMD disease.

A toddler, aged two years and five months suspected to have been the disease (HFMD), died at the Sibu Hospital yesterday.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday said the victim from Kampung Pangtray, Daro in Mukah, Sarawak, came down with a fever on July 24 and showed signs of rashes on the palms and feet, as well as ulcers in the mouth the next day.
